Preparing for the NTE / PRAXIS

Doing well on standardized tests can be difficult for many people.

CWH Consulting believes in shared responsibility for passing the NTE. This is why the results are guaranteed. It is in this way we show we're vitally interested in people not just enrolling in the course but passing. Students also have the responsibility to work hard outside class and attend all meetings for the total refund.

We believe that tests like the NTE largely measure learned behaviors rather than innate ability. Thus, the necessary skills can be effectively taught to most people in a reasonable length of time. Since we are unable to change tests in the short run, we must concentrate on changing the characteristics of the test-takers in a number of ways.

The weaknesses that these people have can be remediated and most can improve their scores significantly in a reasonable amount of time (2 to 3 months).

We find that most of our students do NOT have a single weakness but several:

  1. Health. Some have poor nutritional habits and/or poor vision. Just as these factors play a part in the learning of young children, adults are also hampered.
  2. Reading. We find that many, many of our students simply do not read fast enough to finish a test or with enough comprehension to answer accurately.
  3. Test-Taking Strategies. Many people do not fully understand the special words in questions, the structure of questions and answering techniques that increase scores.
  4. Anxiety. Quite a number of people become so nervous in testing situations that this alone reduces scores. People can be taught effective techniques that lower anxiety.
  5. Simulations. Students often need practice in answering questions like the ones on a test. In this manner they learn to practice responding under test-like conditions.
  6. Miscellaneous. There are some cognitive areas such as statistics, measurement and major contributors (Piaget, Bloom, etc.) that need review.
  7. Content. The test makers assume that persons taking the test have a knowledge of the field that is both broad and current. It takes time and effort to make this true. Students spend their time outside class working on this area.
